My wife is always bringing home those little "Dollar Store" squeaky-toys for our little house dogs... When they eventually tear them up, of course they are thrown away..... Quite some years ago my wife was about to throw one away, that they had torn a hole in, and I recalled that it had sounded just like a mouse squeaking...so I tore it open and retrieved the little "squeaker" inside... I found that blowing thru it would make a sound just like a very loud mouse squeak... It was very similar in size, and the way it was made, to the little metal-reeds that fit into many predator calls...but it was plastic.... Anyway, I used a drop of glue and glued it inside a plastic drinking straw which I cut off to about 3 inches long. This was to make it long enough to easily hold between my lips... And it did, in fact, make a serviceable coaxer-call, and I used it several times... Now some of the toys have other type squeakers that don't work as well for this...but many are of the "reed type"... So, if you are a predator caller, before you toss out that old "squeaky-toy, you may want to check it out.

Just an intersting bit of "trivia" here on this subject... I won't mention any company names, and NO, it was NOT from anyone who is affiliated with this forum...but about a month ago I sent off a small amount of money for a "promo" of a call, advertised by a certain commercial call maker...... I received it yesterday...... And while "examining" the small mouth blown call, thought it looked rather "disposable", so I thought I'd push out the reed to see if it was replaceable if and when that became necessary.......... Well, appearently this fella had reached the same conclusion that I, and perhaps a few others had.....because the "reed" for this call was the exact same little "squeaker" I had talked about earlier in this thread as having removed from a dog toy and glued into a plastic drinking straw.
