Our neighbor told my wife yesterday that the sandbass were running across the low-water bridge out by where we used to live in the country, so we loaded up. Our daughter had just dropped her husband off at work and was at the house, so she went with us... We brought home some of the larger sandbass, crappie, and 2 or 3 bass..... Called the rest of the kids up, and my wife's brother next door, and had a "family fish fry" last night... Anybody else been doing any fishing ?

That is one of the "benefits" of being retired, the kids being out on their own, and having a wife who is a serious fishaholic...going fishing alot....LOL... We have been probably 6 or 8 times in the last 3 weeks or so.

Still to darn cold here to fish, Although I did put on my coveralls and go out the other evening, on the Kankakee river, still like to froze to death. Lost 7 setups, no fish, Water is way high with all the flooding around here. Still have about 8" of water around the barn.

Tell you what...bluegill, sunfish, rockbass, red-ear, and the other assorted varities of perch are our favorite fish for eating....and our favorite bait for them is crickets... Several times during the season we will make a round trip to the nearest bait store that sells crickets (about 80 miles round trip), and pick up several dozen... A few times we have even ordered them thru BASS PRO by the 500 or 1000 lot........... And for the record, my wife almost always outfishes me....but that's OK...I get my share when it comes time for eating them....LOL
