Do you sharpen your hooks ? ... I had always carried a small pocket sized sharpening rod with a grove in it, in my tackle box for touching up hooks when they got dull, but my wife bought a BERKLEY hook sharpener here awhile back that runs on batteries, and it does a pretty good job... But then too, I know some people who never sharpen their fish hooks... Do you sharpen your fish hooks...and if so, what do you use ?

i had'nt been until i kept missing fish.just could'nt set the hook.snagged my fishin'buddy with my spinner bait and it was to dull to push rest of the way through,. after we took him to the ERto get it out of his head he said that's why you've been missin' them fish all day you're dang hooks are dull.if they were sharp you could have pushed the hok the rest of the way through and the money we paid at the ER could have went for

Sounds like the man has a point...LOL.................. The best I have ever been hooked, a friend stuck an ABU spinner in my back...deep...just below my right shoulder... With that trebble hook, two of which were in me, pushing it on thru was not an option. We were probably 16 or so at the time.... I still have a scar from where, after trying unsucessfully to pull it out, he had to take his pocket knife and cut it out... Any more, any time I am fishing I ALWAYS have a pair of wire cutters or my multi-tool, just in case, so the hook can be pushed on thru and then the barb snipped off... I have no plans to ever go thru that again,

I prefer to replace those hooks that I can, especially worm hooks. They're not all that expensive.

I agree with you Tom...with worm hooks, or hooks used for bait fishing, I just toss them when they get too dull...and somethimes even treble hooks on hard bodied lures also get tossed and replaced when they get too dull....but on spinner baits, jigs, or MEPPS type spinners I usually sharpen those for as long as I can... Altho I have also been known to tye a "fly-type" tail on a treble hook to replace one that has broken hooks.
